Auston Matthews had a pair of assists for the Leafs, who were without injured captain John Tavares and won for the sixth time in seven games. William Nylander scored twice, Jack Campbell stopped 36 shots for his second shutout of the season, and the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night. Toronto's core four players of Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, John Tavares and William Nylander kept rolling as they have now scored 16 of the last 17 goals in the last five games.
Is it good news or bad news that the Leafs top players seem to be the only guys producing the offence? While Tavares will be a game time decision against the Flyers, he was on the ice for around 40 minutes after practice, which is unusual for a player who will dress. The Maple Leafs start the second with a few shots on net, and then get their first power play of the game when Trevor Moore is called for hooking and ruining one great chance for the Leafs and they score quickly, unlike the Kings who could barely get a shot on net.

The Leafs are evening things up in the stats department, not letting LA control the game as much as they did during the first period. Jack Campbell plays the puck from behind the net and Auston Matthews start building up a head of steam at the goal line, skates down the ice, grabs the puck and almost beats Jonathan Quick but hits the post and it deflects out of the rink.
Auston Matthews accelerates pic. After a puck battle along the boards in the corner, Phillip Danault takes a shot on net, falling over in the process and the puck v-e-r-y-s-l-o-w-l-y trickles through Campbells legs and just slips over the line before anyone realizes where it is.

The Leafs get a couple good shorthanded chances, and the penalty kill is working very well this game.
